Technical/Specialized Training

 

LEAVE NO TRACE, TRAINER COURSE. (LNTT)

Become a certified trainer for Leave No Trace outdoor ethics and skills. This is a 2-day course and includes an overnight (camping) Designed for those who lead others into the outdoors


WILDERNESS EMT MODULE (WEMT/SOLO)

(Prerequisite: Current EMT “street” certification) Take your emergency medical skills beyond “street” applications. Backcountry, wilderness and rural environments pose unique challenges for when the golden hour is just a dream. Five-day course (Mon-Fri) (Minimum of 12 students required). SOLO. BACKCOUNTRY TRIP LEADERS COURSE (BTL)

Perhaps the true cornerstone of Teamlink/Shenandoah Mountain Guides, (and a course that we have provided to select clients for years) the BTL course consolidates our professional training segments and includes practical skill application over the course of a week in the Blue Ridge /Allegheny backcountry. The graduate of this course can be expected to be better prepared to handle many of the different issues that can arise as a backcountry trip leader. BTL is for adventure trip leaders, university outing club leaders, camp staff, scout leaders and those who enjoy (or want to more fully enjoy) the backcountry. (BTL graduates will have national and internationally recognized training and trainer certification)

  • Gear selection maintenance and management
  • Land navigation
  • Applied fieldcraft
  • Emergency procedures, actions, and decision matrices
  • Leave No Trace ( International trainer certification)
  • Survival
  • Water acquisition and treatment issues and options
  • Land/Agency regulations
  • Risk management
  • Psychology of group leadership and dynamics
  • Wilderness First Aid*

(* SOLO Wilderness First Aid module is offered as an optional, but highly recommended, two-day (Sat-Sun) prelude/postlude to BTL.)
